China Travel Guide
Visiting China for the first time is an exhilarating but somewhat frightening experience. I remember a friend of mine worrying particularly about how his ten-year-old son would handle the cultural differences and the discomforts of travel. But while planning is a must, people of any age can have fun and learn a lot by visiting China.
China has an incredibly rich history that's impossible to completely master, it's over 5,000 years old, after all!
But many of China's ancient temples and gardens are still preserved today. You can explore its art and sculptures in the country's museums, but honestly, just walking the streets will prove to be an education in itself.
Beijing, for instance, has amazing historical architecture that you can explore on your way to something else, shopping, for instance.

China's markets provide a unique and fascinating shopping experience. On my first trip to China I loved looking at the fruits, vegetables and meats in the various small fresh food daily markets.
My friend, a lawyer, had about ten suits made to order for the equivalent of $50 each! His son was particularly enamored with the dirt-cheap DVDs of movies that hadn't even been released yet. But those are now few and far between owing the the authorities 'crackdown' on illegal goods being sold.

Some warnings about traveling in China: First, most cities are very, very crowded. It's one thing to know that intellectually, and another to be squished in a hot bus like a sardine while more people pile in.
In the summertime, the cities are sometimes very smoggy, so try to visit in spring or autumn if you can.
Talking about politics often makes Chinese people feel uncomfortable, so avoid it.

Overall, my favorite part about traveling in China is meeting new and interesting people.
If you travel in the biggest cities, you'll find many Chinese people who speak English and really want to practice it with you.
Most people you'll meet are very proud of their cities and will gladly advise you about where to go and what to do.
Consider bringing a Mandarin phrasebook with you to learn the basics of the language. Most Chinese are able to speak Mandarin, although in normal daily life probably use their local dialect more often than not.
Nearly everyone you'll run across will appreciate hearing a "Ni hao!" now and then.

Before you go, make sure you mark these tasks off your to-do list.
* Be sure to get all appropriate vaccinations before entering the country.
* Don't bring ANY illegal drugs with you into the country. China has extremely harsh penalties for illegal drug possession compared to most Western countries.
* Be careful protecting your passport and other identification documents at all times.
Have fun!

When you are picking your China tours package be sure to get a guide that is familiar with the locations and can speak both very good Chinese, local dialect of the area you plan to visit, and your own language also.
It won't do you any good if you have a guide who is not familiar with the area and has not lived there for some time to become familiar with everything around the town.
Always ask the Chinese tour operator to confirm these details. Not always easy but the more professional the operator the more likely they will provide the answers.

It is possible to book these tours on the ground, I mean after arrival. If your staying in a reputable hotel they may be able to recommend a local based China tours company for you.
These types of local tour companies can often provide a more in depth tour. Often there are individuals available offering a personal tour service, these too can sometimes be very good. But be warned, there are also some unscrupulous tour operators also. Personal recommendation is often best in these circumstances.

If you take the time to book ahead, which is possible today with online China tour operator's you are guaranteeing that you will have someone available to work specifically with you and all of your needs for showing you the town. Are vaccinations mandatory? They are toxic poisons and I have never had one in my life (now 70!), and I have lived and traveled in many countries. I carry herbal/mineral first-aid kit wherever I go.
